starting in September 2018

Small-group conversational language courses led by an experienced local tutor.
New students are welcome at all levels, subject to sufficient places being available.
All classes are ‘conversational’. The aim of every course is to teach people to speak the language. The proportion of conversation to ‘taught’ material increases with each level. Fluency not required - just the willingness to join in a conversation! A group trip to Italy is planned for spring 2019.

Autumn term £102 for 12 weeks

This course will build on the basics of the language learned in Year 1. We will start with revision of key Year 1 topics. Year 2 includes plenty of opportunities to speak Italian, whilst learning new language structures and vocabulary to express yourself on a variety of situations and topics.
Sample topics: locations, directions, transport, holidays, talking about past events, daily routine.

Starting 17th September 2018
Autumn term £108.00 for 12 weeks

A mid-level conversational Italian course. designed for students with a good knowledge of the basics. Lots of chance to practice conversational skills, but we’ll also work on more advanced language structures and vocabulary, including a variety of tenses. New tense for Year 4: Imperfetto.
Sample topics: Comprare i vestiti, Divertimenti, Casa mia, Da piccola.

Tuesday mornings 10.00 - 12.00pm.
Starting 18th September 2018
Autumn term £108 for 12 weeks

An intermediate level but relaxed conversation group, suitable for anyone who already has a good knowledge of the language, and wants to push themselves further, exploring more complex structures and conversational topics. Mostly conversational, but with opportunities to refresh/learn structures and vocabulary, and to hear/read some authentic Italian together. Fluency not required - just the ability to join in a ‘free’ conversation.

Courses will continue for 3 terms until summer 2019, as long as there is sufficient demand. Class sizes are normally 6-10. These are leisure courses with no assessments, but there is always an element of effort involved in language learning. Basically you get out what you put in! I usually provide some work for students to do at home: either a written exercise or preparation for a conversation on a particular topic.
Beginners courses assume no prior knowledge of the language at all; for a higher level course, you can try before you commit - attend for two weeks to see if the course is right for you, before signing up for the whole term. Most students are learning for enjoyment and we take things at an easy pace to suit all ability levels. Unless stated, all you need to bring is enthusiasm for the language and a bilingual dictionary.
